BASE is one of the most important search engines for Access web-based scientifically relevant publications. It is developed and updated by the Library of the Bielefeld University, and provides access to more than 25 million digital documents from 1'730 different sources.


DigiZeitschriften is a German consortium dedicated to retro-digitizing and online publishing of scientific journals, mainly published in the German linguistic area. More than one hundred are already online, many others are planned.


Virtual library of medieval manuscripts in Swiss collections. Nearly one thousand manuscripts from approximately thirty libraries. Regular additions are planned.


E-Periodica is ETH-Bibliothek's platform for digitised Swiss journals. In the field of architecture, a large selection of journals, including Das Werk / Werk-Archithese / Wek, Bauen und Wohnen from 1914 onwards, as well as Archi, Tracés, Tec21, Schweizer Ingenieur und Architekt and many others have been digitized. All journals on the platform are freely accessible. Depending on the agreement with the individual publisher, there may be an embargo for more recent issues.


Digital library of the BNF (Bibliothèque nationale de France), Gallica provides access to more than 1'100'000 digital documents (books, journals, images, maps, etc.). The main focus is on French culture, but several foreign classics are also available.


Digital library of the Heidelberg University. It contains the Bibliotheca Palatina manuscripts, the Heidelberg incunabula, and a huige selection of digitized books. A very valuable section on architecture, art and archaeology is also available.


OAIster is a meta-catalogue of digital documents for serching in collections throughout the world, offering more than 20 million documents from one thousand collections. Searching is done via the Worldcat platform.


Internet Archive (archive.org) is a nonprofit organization aiming to provide reserachers, scholars and the general public with a large free digital library. It contains e-books, audio, video, web pages and software.


e-newspaperarchives.ch provides access to titles digitized by the Swiss National Library and its cantonal partners. This collection contains 128 titles comprising 587'732 issues, 4'973'421 pages and 40'545'935 articles (updated: 13 February 2020).
